Like the giant panda, the red panda - also known as the lesser panda - is a native of China, although it is not nearly as large or as well known. Measuring an average of 2 feet long (not counting its tail) and weighing and average of 12 to 20 pounds, the red panda is about the size of a raccoon. It has a rich, soft reddish brown coat, and a long thick tail that it can use as a blanket. The red panda even has thick fur on the bottom of its feet!
