Meerkats are fascinating and increasingly popular members of the mongoose family and reside in the Kalahari desert in Africa.  Made popular by movies and television shows, meerkats are burrowing animal that are capable of digging the equivalent of their body weight in dirt in just a few seconds.  Meerkats live in communities of around 20 or more, and are known for teaching their young how to eat venomous scorpions - one of their favorite treats - in increasingly difficult lessons.
